Chuck Norris, an 86-year-old American martial artist and Hollywood action star, is receiving a tonne of tributes.
"His heart was full of love, even though he looked like a warrior on the outside," stated Danilee Norris, his daughter.
Stallone called Norris "a true American in every sense," while Swedish actor and martial artist Dolph Lundgren, who co-starred with Norris in the 2012 Sylvester Stallone movie The Expendables, said he saw him as someone to admire and follow throughout his life.
Norris's most well-known roles were in the action-crime television series Walker, Texas Ranger in the 1990s and in the martial arts movie The Way of the Dragon in 1972, where he faced superstar Bruce Lee.
His family posted a statement on Instagram announcing his passing.
The family stated, "We share with great sadness the news of our beloved Chuck Norris's sudden passing yesterday (Thursday) morning."
He had a strong sense of purpose, faith, and steadfast devotion to his loved ones. He inspired millions of people worldwide and had a profound effect on countless lives through his hard work, self-control, and kindness.
“To the world, he was known as a martial artist, a celebrated actor, and a true icon of strength,” the statement continued.
He wasn’t just important to the world— to us, he was our whole universe: the soul of our family, a compassionate brother, a devoted father and grandfather, and a loving husband.
Stallone praised him, calling him a "great man" and stating that he had a great time working with him.
Later on Friday, former US President Donald Trump said he had "tremendous respect" for Norris and described him as a resolute and strong person.
Lorenzo Lamas, an American actor who trained at Norris's martial arts studio, expressed his prayers for his family.
"Evil world, beware—a powerful angel has arrived at the gates," Lamas wrote in a post on X. Chuck Norris exacts revenge in addition to receiving wings.
Born in Oklahoma in 1940, Carlos Ray Norris enlisted in the US Air Force as a teenager.
He started practicing martial arts while he was stationed in South Korea.
In addition to creating his own martial art system, Chun Kuk Do, he obtained black belts in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, karate, taekwondo, Tang Soo Do, and judo.
In the 1960s, he won karate titles and expertly incorporated his real-life fighting skills into his films.
After meeting legendary martial artist Bruce Lee, he received an invitation to play Colt, the last villain in The Way of the Dragon, which marked his big break in the film industry.
In a Q&A with Combat Culture, Norris recalled the incident: "I was the world champion at the time, and I jokingly asked Bruce, 'So, who's going to win?'"
“Don’t worry, everything’s in my hands—I’m the one steering this story ahead,” he said with assured confidence.
“Oh, really? So you’re aiming to take down the world champion?” I said.
"No, I don't want to beat him—I want to kill him," he retorted.
Norris was inspired to begin acting seriously by his friend, actor Steve McQueen. After that, he starred in the action movie Breaker in 1977! Breaker! “including Good Guys Wear Black, which was released in 1978.”
After starring alongside Sir Christopher Lee in martial arts films like A Force of One, The Octagon, and An Eye for an Eye, he became well-known.
Prior to becoming the protagonist in the television series Walker, Texas Ranger, Norris had starred in films from the 1980s, including Missing in Action, Delta Force, and Code of Silence.
He portrayed Cordell "Cord" Walker, a sage ranger with a strong sense of justice, in the well-liked CBS series from 1993 to 2001.

On Thursday, TMZ revealed that Norris had been rushed to a hospital in Hawaii because of a medical emergency.
His five children and wife, Gena O'Kelley, survive him.
